The forest areas of Mettupalayam and Sirumugai is a shelter for wildlife like elephants, deer, bears, wild cows, tigers, leopards etc. Due to the massive drought that hit these areas in the past, the forest had lost its greenery with trees and plants withering and animals suffering due to lack of food and water.

This year, though the monsoon rains had started late, the torrential downpour across Mettupalayam's nearby forest areas restored the green cover, as well as filled water bodies in the forests, delighting both forest officials and wildlife present in the regions.

With the northeast monsoon rains set to begin in October, the Forest Department has opined that there will be no scarcity for food and water this year, for wildlife in these regions.
